Imaginative, wickedly fun band to join long-running events in July and September.

(LOS ANGELES) Multifaceted, relentlessly creative sextet Insects vs. Robots has been added to two major music festivals this year.

On July 4, the Los Angeles-based band will perform at the 40th anniversary of Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic at the Fort Worth Stockyards in Fort Worth, TX. There, they’ll play alongside such acts Willie and Kris Kristofferson. The full lineup is at On Sept. 21 in Saratoga Springs, NY, Insects vs. Robots will perform as part of Farm Aid. The long-running event was founded in 1985 by Willie Nelson (IvR member J. Micah Nelson’s father), John Mellencamp and Neil Young. Both shows represent an opportunity for Insects vs. Robots to showcase their high-energy, inclusive live performances. Built around the members’ musical and visual artistry as well as audience participation, the shows made IvR a top draw in their hometown of Los Angeles. “In LA, it’s pretty rare to have that free, ‘feeling the music’ crowd,” says band member Jeff “FEJ” Smith. “[But] we cultivated a universe for creative people.”

Insects vs. Robots formed in 2008, playing what they call “psychedelic freak-folk-rock space-punk” – a fever dream of acoustic and electric guitars, sundry vocalizations, bass, violin, percussion and far-out effects. Currently the band is in Ojai, CA working on their as-yet untitled third album, which was fan-funded via Once they finish record with engineer/producer Matt Linesch (Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes), the group will produce special vinyl-only physical releases – with artwork by the band – in addition to a digital version.
