Band announces appearances at Lollapalooza, Gathering of the Vibes,

High Sierra and Dauphin Countryfest.

(AUSTIN, TX) Flourishing rock band Lukas Nelson & P.O.T.R., fresh from electrifying performances at South-by-Southwest (SXSW) and Kid Rock’s Chillin’ The Most Cruise, is gearing up for Summer.

In continued support of their current album Wasted, Lukas Nelson & P.O.T.R. are trekking through the American Southwest. First, and most importantly, the band will join Willie Nelson for an April 28 show at Austin’s The Backyard. Proceeds benefit the West, TX Volunteer Fire Department. With his family’s hometown of Abbott being just miles away from the devastating explosion, Lukas says “The people of West have our prayers and love. We’re glad to help out anyway we can.”

Starting May 4 in Ukiah, CA and continuing through mid-July, the band will route through Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Texas and Missouri. In addition, the group will appear at several summer festivals. In June, Lukas Nelson & P.O.T.R. will rock Manitoba at the Dauphin Countryfest – Canada’s longest-running country music festival. In July, they’ll appear at the High Sierra Music Festival (Quincy, CA), Willie Nelson’s annual Fourth of July Picnic (Fort Worth, TX) and the Gathering of the Vibes (Bridgeport, CT). And in August, they’ll join the festivities at Chicago’s legendary Lollapalooza festival.

The new dates and festival appearances follow Lukas Nelson & P.O.T.R.’s appearance on Kid Rock’s Chillin’ The Most Cruise –where Lukas joined Shooter Jennings onstage a couple of times – and at SXSW, where the group blazed a trail through their hometown of Austin, TX. First, Lukas provided Paste and AOL’s Spinner with local’s guides to Austin, dishing on everything from food to music to wildlife to the importance of staying hydrated. He also imparted some of his father’s wisdom, quoting the venerable Willie Nelson’s sage advice: “Keep your nose clean and your legs crossed and stay out of the trees.”

The main events, however, were Lukas Nelson & P.O.T.R.’s two showcases. The group performed at the Brita Green Music Stage – where they were joined by Lukas’ brother Micah – and at Austin’s Arlyn Studios for an event sponsored by Nokia Music, Roc Nation and Raptor House. During the group’s white-hot Arlyn performance, Willie Nelson hopped onstage with Lukas for a 20-minute jam that included “Mammas, Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys” and Hank Williams, Sr.’s “Hey, Good Lookin’.”

“We had a great time [at SXSW and on the cruise],” Lukas says, “and we want to keep it going through the summer. The band is super excited about the new dates and the festivals, and we hope the Realers are, too.”

The Realers should be excited, especially since Lukas Nelson & P.O.T.R. is turning on some big ears. Frank “Poncho” Sampedro, guitarist for Neil Young’s band Crazy Horse, told Rolling Stone that he enjoyed the band’s performance at the Bridge School Benefit, singling them out as the evening’s standout act. “I wasn’t a fan of [our acoustic] show,” Sampedro says. “I don’t think we spent enough time getting a good guitar sound. But I liked the ending with Lukas Nelson.”

Neil Young, incidentally, is also a fan. He told Parade magazine last year that “[Lukas] is great and I love his music.” Young also provided guidance during the making of Wasted.
