FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE November 8, 2013
LUKAS NELSON & P.O.T.R. ARE EVERYWHERE AND IN THE STUDIO
Thrilling live band pops up on stages at Farm Aid, John Varvatos 315 Bowery,
Petty Fest Austin, Dylan Fest and more.
(AUSTIN, TX) When Lukas Nelson & P.O.T.R. get going, they don’t stop. In 2013, they’ve won fans at South-by-Southwest, Lollapalooza, Farm Aid, Petty Fest Austin, Willie Nelson’s 4th of July Picnic, Gathering of the Vibes, the High Sierra Music Festival and on Conan. In the final quarter, they’re not slowing down. More festivals and tour dates are on the agenda, as is their third studio album.
Lukas was featured alongside his father, the iconic Willie Nelson, and his younger brother Micah in the John Varvatos Fall/Winter 2013 advertising campaign. He and P.O.T.R. also performed at the John Varvatos Bowery Live concert on September 19th at John Varvatos 315 Bowery Store location in NYC.
Also in September, at Farm Aid, Lukas Nelson & P.O.T.R. played their own exhilarating set for the massive crowd. In addition, members of the band hopped onstage for guest appearances with Toad the Wet Sprocket, Jack Johnson and Lukas’s father, iconic singer-songwriter Willie Nelson. In the same month, Lukas performed as part of Petty Fest Austin, a show that paid tribute to noted singer and songwriter Tom Petty – and also featured Jakob Dylan. October found the band in Colorado opening for Les Claypool’s Duo De Twang. And on Nov. 20, Lukas will participate in Dylan Fest in San Francisco.
Between and beyond all of this, Lukas Nelson & P.O.T.R. continue to work on their upcoming third album with producer Mark Howard (U2, Tom Waits, Iggy Pop). Lukas has been banking songs for the release since May, but they’ve been in no particular rush to get the album out. Rather, they dedicated Summer and Fall to nurturing their “band family” and enjoying their musical camaraderie onstage.
“We all love each other and have each other’s backs,” says bassist Corey McCormick. “There are no egos in this band,” seconds drummer Anthony LoGerfo. “The concept of the band is just to be honest and pure… and eventually have a large band family like his dad’s.” Lukas gives that a big thumbs-up. He loves his friends and bandmates, and they strive to fulfill the promise of the real daily. “I know I’m fronting the band, but I gotta tell you – every one of my band members has an incredible back story that’s just as interesting as mine.”
Lukas Nelson & P.O.T.R. did, however, release a surprise free EP of demo recordings from 2012. Made last year at LA’s Henson Recording Studios, I Ain’t Mad Anymore EP includes the transcendent eleven-minute “Soulmate” and a striking cover of Radiohead’s “Fake Plastic Trees.” It also featured contributions from talented family and friends like bassist Rick Rosas (Neil Young, Joe Walsh), ace songwriter and session organist Spooner Oldham, brother Micah Nelson (Insects vs. Robots) and of course Willie Nelson. “The session was really raw and soulful,” says Lukas, “and had a beautiful vibe so rather than going through the production steps with these we felt it best to share them in their original forms.”
