LUKAS NELSON & PROMISE OF THE REAL CONTINUE THEIR ROAD WARRIOR WAYS
“Lil Girl” (from Dumb and Dumber 2), “Living it Up,” & “Find Yourself” Available on iTunes
(LOS ANGELES) – “There’s nothing like the excitement of playing live, but it’s really special when we get to play so many shows for causes that mean a lot to us,” says Lukas Nelson as he and Promise of the Real head into their final handful of dates for 2014.
Some of those causes include performing at the Farm Aid 2014 concert in North Carolina, Harvest the Hope: A Concert to Protect the Heartland in Nebraska in September, and The Bridge School Benefit Concert, which helps individuals with severe speech and physical impairments, in San Francisco in October.
At Harvest the Hope, Lukas Nelson (vocals/guitar), Anthony Logerfo (drums), Corey McCormick (bass), and Tato Melgar (percussion), along with Lukas’ brother Micah were honored to perform as the backing band for one of their musical heroes and sources of inspiration both onstage and off, Neil Young.
“One of the highlights of my life to have my band support Neil Young and my father in protest of the Keystone Pipeline,” says Nelson. “We played five songs with Neil that each lasted over 15 minutes, including ‘Country Home’ and ‘Mansion on a Hill,’ “Who’s Gonna Stand Up,’ ‘Homegrown,’ and ‘Down by the River.'”
He continues, “[Harvest the Hope] was especially epic because Neil is the reason this band formed. Anthony, our drummer, and I met at Neil concert in 2008. Prior to playing with Neil, we backed up dad and played a magical set with him as well. It was a fitting prayer to support the fight against corporations taking over our country, stopping the Keystone Pipeline is just the tip of the iceberg. We need to really get our heads in the game and take our country back – down with corporate greed.”
Bridge School marked another special moment for the band as they took on backing band duties for Neil Young once again. Nelson also performed a moving acoustic rendition of the song “Just Breathe” with Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder. He also recorded the song with his father, Willie Nelson, on the 2012 album, Heroes. “Performing with Eddie at Bridge School was an incredible moment for me and an incredible cause – all thanks to uncle Neil Young, whom we got to jam with both days,” says Nelson.
Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real’s upcoming dates include performances in Utah, Colorado, Nevada, and Hawaii this month, with another handful of dates are lined up for January. The band is also confirmed to perform at the South by Southwest music festival again in Austin, Texas in March 2015.
Meanwhile, the band is recording new material in San Francisco and has three new songs out now. “Lil Girl,” which is featured in the new movie, Dumb and Dumber To, “Living it Up,” and “Find Yourself,” all from the band’s 2013 Love Yourself recording sessions in Topanga Canyon, California, are currently available on iTunes. In other movie news, Nelson’s new side project, Lazers of God – a duo with Alberto Bos – has a song, also titled “Lazers of God,” in Albee Layer’s new surf film, “Attractive Distractions,” which is out now. The song will be available on iTunes shortly.
