Frank Turner has never been one to stand still, and now he’s looking back on a decade of relentless creativity with the announcement of The Next Ten Years Triple Vinyl Set on 7 November, 2025. To mark the announcement, Frank is sharing a cover of Janis Ian’s ‘Better Times Will Come.’’ On how the cover came about, Frank shares: “A few years back, the legendary Janis Ian hit me up out of the blue. Seeing her name in my inbox was mind-blowing – I’m a big fan – and the message kept up the crazy – she asked me to cover one of her songs, alongside a host of other artists, to explore song interpretation, as well as to spread the timely message of “Better Times”. I gave it my best shot and was pretty pleased with the result – as was Janis. It’s lovely to have this song on vinyl and to be giving it (and its words) a wider audience.”

Listen to “Better Times Will Come’’ HERE.

an wrote the song “Better Times Will Come” the day after John Prine died. It is the only 3-chord song she has ever done, and was originally recorded as just vocal into her phone. When she recorded the studio version for her 2023 album, The Light at the End of the Line, which would be her final album of new, recorded music, Ian and her producer, bass player Victor Krauss set out to use the song to show the times we had been going through. After enlisting friends like Diane Schuur and Vince Gill, Jim Hoke, and John Cowan to play on the track, they had a song that became an enormous project. The “Better Times Project” was launched, and Ian encouraged everyone to make their own version of the song and post it on social media. To date, more than 100 artists from 16 countries, singing and signing in 16 different languages have contributed versions of the song, as well as even more wonderful videos that were created including dance videos, works from graphic artists and film makers, and even Barbie dolls and collage-making.

Ian says, “for me, this piece illustrates the arc of fear, isolation, hope, relief, and then return to fear we keep going through as we dealt with the on-set of Covid-19 and even now during this time of political and cultural discord and violence. It’s also a tribute to my fellow artists, as we continue to do our work, offering audiences an escape and a bit of joy, even as we watched our own professions disintegrate under the weight of it all.”

For Turner’s version, Ian praises, “to say I’m proud that Frank’s joined my project would be an understatement. He gave it a different kind of legitimacy. He also wasn’t afraid to take my solo rendition and turn it into something completely new.”
