LOS ANGELES — Particle Kid, a.k.a., Micah Nelson’s experimental, psychedelic, future-folk musical adventure, is gearing up for a busy Spring and Summer with a slew of tour dates, special events, and a major showing of 10 pieces of his artwork.
Before a West Coast solo tour from May 25 through June 3 that includes a performance at the BottleRock Festival, Particle Kid will perform at the Long Story Short: Willie Nelson 90 event, which is a two-day birthday celebration for Micah’s legendary father. The star-studded event, set for April 29 and April 30 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, will also feature performances from Willie Nelson, Neil Young, Sheryl Crow, Snoop Dogg, Beck, the Chicks, Rosanne Cash, the Lumineers, Miranda Lambert, Chris Stapleton, and many more. For more information, visit www.willienelson90.com.
And then, beginning on June 23 in Somerset, Wisconsin, Particle Kid will once again take part in the Outlaw Music Festival Tour featuring Willie Nelson & Family, Robert Plant & Alison Krauss, the Avett Brothers, John Fogerty, and many more. Tickets are on sale now at OutlawMusicFestival.com.
The composer and multi-media artist has received rave reviews for his live shows and recordings (his latest being 2022’s Time Capsule). Rolling Stone calls Nelson, a “trippy troubadour” who makes “low-fi, dreamscape music – a slow tumble of guitars, far-off vocals, and washes of rhythm and noise.” “Get ready for a trip,” warns Consequence of Sound, while Cleveland.comcalls him “a stellar singer-songwriter… edgy and engaging.”
“Micah’s diverse releases as Particle Kid have taken an exploratory bent, combining lo-fi loops and strange textural elements with more straightforward folk and indie rock songwriting,” adds All Music Magazine. Bluntly put, Off the Tracks declares, Shit this is good. So, very very good. So fun. So close to falling over. And yet it’s all held together by some genuine smarts, some actual homespun genius.”
Meanwhile, another artistic passion of Nelson’s is art. He created the poster for his solo tour and is part of the Moonlight Arts Collective, an art community founded by Incubus lead singer Brandon Boyd, who is also a painter and art enthusiast. This week, 14 selections of Micah’s original art debuted as part of the collective. With two pieces offered as limited-edition prints, an additional 12 of Nelson’s paintings of various mediums and canvases, are a portrait of his father titled “Roll Me Up & Smoke Me When I Die,” as well as “Grateful Dead – Live at Winterland,” “Electric Ghoul Aid Acid Test III,” “Therianthropy Dream,” “The World in Itself,” and others.
“I’m thrilled to be working with Moonlight,” says Nelson. “Being both a sonic and visual artist, it’s a perfect collaboration. It’s great to finally have a proper portal for my drawings and paintings, to have them archived professionally, and available to everyone. The collective has a real respect for the artists and their work. I’m glad they found me. It feels like the start of a meaningful relationship.”
