The KingWonderBall Holiday Tour, featuring King, Wonderland, and Marcia Ball, Kicks Off Dec. 4
“When Shelley King and Carolyn Wonderland combine forces, magic seems to follow.” — The Austin Chronicle

AUSTIN, Texas — On her own, Shelley King has been called “Austin music royalty” with “roof-rattling vocals” and a “fiery” guitar player. And, when combined with her frequent collaborator, Carolyn Wonderland, she’s been called magical. Together, the powerhouse duo will open for roots rock legends Dave Alvin & Jimmie Dale Gilmore with the Guilty Ones on their “We’re Still Here – The Tour” this fall.
“When Shelley King and Carolyn Wonderland combine forces, magic seems to follow,” writes Doug Freeman in The Austin Chronicle of the dynamic duo. “Exceptional roots and blues artists in their own right, their shows together over the past few years weld the guitar firebrands in mutual support, especially when Wonderland’s scorching signature blues licks lean into King’s soulful vocals and songwriting.”
“I am so excited and Carolyn is beyond stoked to open this tour for Dave and Jimmie Dale,” says King. “They aren’t just our musical heroes, they’re our friends. Dave produced Carolyn’s last album and we recently worked with him again on her upcoming Alligator Records release. He and Jimmie Dale are really sweet guys and their show together is so good. I can’t imagine a better fit than having Carolyn and I open the shows!”
The in-demand artist is booked for the rest of the year, including shows as a trio with Wonderland and Cindy Cashdollar and her beloved annual holiday outing, KingWonderBall Holiday Tour, with Wonderland and Marcia Ball. Of last year’s holiday tour, The Austin Chronicle raved, “However you celebrate, there are few better ways to kick off the holiday season than with Austin legends burning through some seasonal tunes. Carolyn Wonderland and Shelley King have torn up stages on tour together the past couple of years, with the pair of songwriters uniting to trade their respective electric and acoustic blues guitars from recent albums Tempting Fate and Madam Mystic. For the special holiday show, they wrangle piano powerhouse Marcia Ball to throw her distinct, bluesy Gulf Coast flare into the yuletide fire as the trio kicks off a regional tour.”
Meanwhile, King is encouraging fellow Texans to nominate local musicians for Texas State Musician Honors by October 15 at www.txoriginal.com. In 2008, King became the first female artist to receive the honor (Kelly Clarkson is the latest honoree.)

Award-winning and critically acclaimed Shelley King’s 10th album release, Madam Mystic (2023), adds new flavors to her “electric Southern blues and acoustic folk, revved-up Cajun country and rock ’n’ roll” (Dallas Observer). Released on her own label, Lemonade Records, the album features 12 new tunes written or co-written by King including the single, “Time Means Nothing,” an intimate and warm song about appreciating the here-and-now, as well as the fun, swinging, jazz title track, that unveils a deeper artistry, matured by her years of touring, recording, and electrifying audiences throughout and beyond the Lone Star State.
Following her studies at Sam Houston State University, seasoned by countless gigs in musical theater and as a solo act, King relocated to Austin in 1992. The title track from her 1998 debut album, Call of My Heart, won “Song of the Year” honors at the Austin Music Awards in 2002 after being covered by Toni Price. King and her group won the AMA’s “Best Roots Rock Band” honors in 2005. In 2008, the Texas legislature chose her as the first woman to be designated an Official State Musician of Texas, and in 2024 they gave King a grant to bring her live show to underserved areas of Texas as part of the Texas Commission on the Arts Rural Tours Initiative.
