Peso In My Pocket,
Debuts at No. 1
(PAULS VALLEY, Okla.) Award winning singer-songwriter, entertainer, and successful business owner Toby Keith enjoys another win with his horse Peso In My Pocket.
Keith owns Dream Walkin’ Farms, an Oklahoma-based Thoroughbred breeding and racing operation and its latest progeny, Peso In My Pocket, won its debut race this past weekend. Coming in first in the New Orleans Fair Grounds (a Churchill Downs Louisiana Horseracing company) maiden claiming race on December 3, the 2 year old gelding ran six furlongs (dirt) in 1:11.95. Bred in Kentucky by Dream Walkin’ Farms, he is the son of Secret Circle and Ready Set Dance by Ready’s Image, trained by Joe Duhon. and ridden by Emanuel Nieves.
Keith has operated Dream Walkin’ Farms for more than three decade and has won several stakes in his native Oklahoma and elsewhere, highlighted by Cactus Ridge’s win in the Grade 3 Arlington-Washington Futurity as well as Smack Smack, winner of the Grade 3 Cornhusker in 2016 and a career winner of $982,159 for trainer Don Von Hemel. Smack Smack, in his 2017 debut, finished second in Oaklawn Racing’s (Hot Springs, Ark.) $125,000 Fifth Season Stakes. Reckless Jerry, a son of Cactus Ridge, held out a taste of “Derby Fever” in 2012 at Oaklawn Racing (Hot Springs, Ark.) with his second-place finish in the Smarty Jones Stakes and third in the Southwest Stakes.
Keith’s latest musical offering, a new album also named Peso In My Pocket, debuted with the single “Old School” which set a Billboard record for the highest chart debut of his career. Released in October, the collection was written largely by Keith and immediately drew praise. “Keith has successfully brought his brand of hard-nosed country music back to the forefront,” wrote People. The album release caps a year where he was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame (having already been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in New York in 2015) and added the National Media of Arts and ACM’s Spirit of Merle Haggard Award to his accolades.
